Mangaluru: Education Minister of Karnataka, Suresh Kumar, visited Saanidhya Residential School and Training Institute for Differently-abled Children in Shaktinagar, Mangaluru on Saturday.

In the presence of MLA Vedavyasa Kamat, two appeals were made to the Minister, to increase the honorarium of the special teachers of Karnataka and to implement the proposal sent to the government from the Director of the Department of liability and senior citizen empowerment.

In 2010-11 CM of Karnataka, BS Yedyurappa has started the scheme of providing grants to the special schools. In 2014-15, the Siddharamaiah Government doubled the honorarium from Rs 6500 to Rs 13500. After that, till now no amount has been increased. Only a few Non Governmental organizations have been working for differently-abled children.

Under the Child-centered education assistance program of 2010-11, only 138 special schools got the grants. The present amount of honorarium is not sufficient for the special teachers for the livelihood. The request was made to increase it as early as possible.
