Mangaluru: The State Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rahim Khan visited Mangala Stadium and assured of conducting a review meeting shortly in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in order to rectify the problems pertaining to the Kabaddi indoor stadium and other issues.
As the game ‘Kabaddi’ has been gaining importance in recent years, there was a demand to construct an indoor Kabaddi stadium in Mangaluru. Hence, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has planned to construct an indoor stadium at the Karavali Exhibition Ground which faced stiff opposition from the members of the Mangaluru Citizen Group and Karavali Cricket Friends.
Hence, Minister Rahim Khan visited Karavali Exhibition Ground along with the officials on Tuesday morning, February 5. After collecting information from the officials, he spoke of convening the meeting.
After visiting Mangala Stadium, Rahim Khan said that a pavilion and other necessary infrastructure will be constructed at Mangala Stadium at a cost of Rs 3 Crore.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath opined that exhibitions should not be organised inside the Karavali Utsav Ground and that it should be reserved only for sports activities. “We are working on such a proposal now”, he informed.
Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association President Manjunath Bhandary, Dr. M V Shetty College of Physiotherapy Professor U T Ifthikar Ali among others were present.
