Mining Officials Raid Illegal Sand Site

Bantwal, Apr 13: The officials of mining and geology department detected an attempt to illegally transport sand by using heavy earthmovers from the shore of Netravati River at Talapady, in the guise of supplying sand to the project site of second phase construction of vented dam at Thumbe, near here on Friday April 12.

The officers with the help of town police seized 2 tipper trucks, a dredger, 3 country boas and 1 mechanized boat.

At the backdrop of a complaint received by election control room of district administration, Deputy Commissioner Harsha Gupta instructed the mining and geology department officers led by Mohan accompanied by town police inspector Nagesh and police personnel carried out the operation against the illegal sand mining.

Mysore based Vijayalaxmi Constructions are the contractors executing the works of new vented dam at Thumbe, near here, while the supervisors instructed the workmen to transport the sand for the said works.  However, the workmen in the guise of supplying the sand for the said works were engaged in illegally mining the sand with the purpose of supplying for private parties for exorbitant rates.
