Mangaluru: Milagres College, in association with Bharath Bookmark, organised a book exhibition on August 28 at the college auditorium as part of the Library Day, commemorating the father of library sciences Dr S. R. Ranganathan.
Rekha Devi, librarian of Canara College, was the chief guest.
Inaugurating the exhibition, Rekha Devi called upon the young generation to be thirsty for more knowledge which is available in books. “Come out of the selfie and mobile world and utilize the libraries to the maximum. Books help to develop your skills and build a better future. Read books, make them your friends. Find out which books are available in the library,” she said adding that the real purpose of a library is served the day a student demands the management for a particular book.
Principal of Milagres College Fr. Micheal Santhumayor, in his presidential address appreciated the Library department for organising the book exhibition and said that the event is as important as any other significant event organised in the institution. “I laud the efforts that were put into organising this event. We are encouraging book reviews by students and are also planning to reward the best reviews. In this way, we are encouraging the students to read books,” he said, adding that as the University wants all colleges to have a fully equipped library, they are bringing in the best books for the students to use.
Nayana K, HOD of the Language Dept welcomed the gathering and Pramila D’Souza, Librarian of the Milagres College proposed the vote of thanks.
Earlier, Nishmitha D’Souza spoke about the significance of Library Day and the contributions of Dr S R Ranganathan to the development of libraries. The guests also offered a floral tribute to an image of Dr S. R. Ranganathan.
