Mangaluru: Aditya Rao, who has been accused of planting a bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) on Monday, was remanded to police custody by the sixth JMFC court, on Thursday, January 23.

The police had requested custody of the accused for 15 days, however, the court ruled that would be in police custody for 10 days.

When he was presented before the court on Thursday, JMFC court judge Kishore Kumar asked Rao if he was subjected to the third-degree treatment (police torture) and if he had a lawyer to represent him, to which it is reported that the accused replied in the negative.

It can be recalled that, after planting the bomb at MIA, Rao, on Wednesday, surrendered himself before the Bengaluru police. He was produced before a court in Bengaluru and was then transported to Mangaluru by flight, to be produced before the JMFC court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, members of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a protest against the state government for “shielding” Aditya Rao. According to a report by Republic World, the activists alleged that the incident was fake. They carried banners reading “Reveal the Conspiracy”.
