MCC continues to turn blind eye towards death traps on road

Mangaluru: Mangaluru city is developing, but things at the ground level simply do not seem to change. For example, the vehicle users literally have to put their lives on stake.
While potholes have been filled in most of the main areas, the riders are toppling either over manholes which have sunken by several inches or over interlocked patches which too have sunken creating deep craters and caverns.

In Bendoor, which is undoubtedly one of the busiest areas of the city, the interlocked bricks have sunken by few inches. This precarious pocket is near a school and it becomes all the more dangerous because there are good number of parents who ferry their kids to the school on two-wheelers.

For many months now the Mangalore city corporation has left this sunken interlock pocket and several other such pockets unattended. The ones who enter the road from Bendoor into the street adjoining the St.Theresa’s school would be caught unaware of the sunken interlock resulting in serious injury to the rider in case of a fall.

Such sunken death traps are found across the city. One such trap lies right opposite Mangala stadium where several two-wheeler riders have suffered injuries.

A cab driver who does school trips says that the MCC is only waiting for some life to be lost so that they could then plunge into action to repair the roads.

He says that falling into the sunken pockets, the vehicle users often suffer injuries, but it is a mental agony when the vehicles too get damaged and the owners end up shelling out thousands of rupees to repair the vehicles.

Another vehicle user feels that the MCC must be made accountable and must be made to compensate every damage to vehicle and to loss of life.

However, as of now, since no major mishap have occurred due to the death traps, the MCC continues to remain in slumber and vehicle users continue put up with the inconvenience.
