Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Civic group, a group of concerned citizens from the city, launched a unique campaign “selfie with potholes” on Friday, November 1.
The city-based civic group organised the campaign in order to highlight the persistent pothole problem in Mangaluru city. As part of the campaign, people were encouraged to click selfies with the potholes and upload the same on social media with the #Fixitanna-ROADhaTHODha, along with the location.
“*Selfie with potholes* with road/location/geo tagging with *#Fixitanna-ROADhaTHODha* & tweet @civicmcc or fb *MCCcivicGroup*..” the group tweeted.

Speaking to ANI, Shammy Shiri a participant in the campaign said, “Today, we are seeing that potholes are becoming a part of us, but unfortunately we haven’t been able to raise our voice towards making our travel and movement more comfortable.”
He added that the MCC group reported the selfies and tagged the concerned authorities to alert them about the potholes.
Earlier, Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu had visited the city to take part in a programme at NITK, Surathkal. Although most of the roads in Mangaluru are riddled with a large number of potholes, only the route which the veep was going to take to reach the venue was promptly “repaired”, much to the chagrin of the residents.
“Seriously? The VP plans to visit NITK on the 2nd November and our City Corporation wakes up just in time? That too with this shoddy excuse of a layover?
What does that make us? The proverbial guinea pigs, who’s life on these dangerous pot-hole riddled roads, means absolutely nothing to them – maybe except only when election beckons?” a Facebook user posted on his wall.
