Mangaluru: Mangaluru’s first ever fully automated six port doppler machine `SMARTDOP XT` along with the Biothezi-VPT and PODP iMAT was installed at the Srinivas Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre (SIMS & RC) on Tuesday, November 13.

Chancellor of Srinivas University and President of A Shama Rao Foundation A Raghavendra Rao inaugurated the new machine in the presence of Dr. A Srinivas Rao, Pro-Chancellor of Srinivas University.

After inaugurating the machine, Raghavendra Rao said, “The machine will be a boon to the patients with higher risk of diabetes as it will help in early detection of diabetic floor disorders and other foot ailments. Due to this advanced system of machine, six patients will be tested within half-an-hour and expert technicians will be deployed. SIMS and RC are well-equipped with trained diabetologist, foot care super specialists and physiotherapy centre to address these problems”, he said.

Rao also emphasised the need for early detection of diabetes. He said, “The incidence of diabetes Mellitus is increasing in the world and India has the second largest number of diabetes patients numbering almost 65.1 million. Among all the states in India, Karnataka has the sixth largest number of proven diabetes and is third in India for prediabetics. This shocking number has to be taken seriously as diabetes patients are at higher risk of diabetic foot diseases like diabetic neuropathy and non healing ulcers etc”, he said.

He also informed about a weeklong diabetes camp which will be started on November 14 at general medicine OPD and it will conclude on November 20. “During the camp, free health card will be distributed and free doctor consultation and free nutrition advice will be provided. Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy, lab related investigations and in-patient car will be provided at maximum discounted charges”, he informed.

SIMS Dean Dr. Uday Kumar Rao, Registrar Dr. Ajay and Anil Kumar, Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohammed Arif, Dr. Amitha, Dr. Adil, HOD of Medicine Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Annayya Kulal and Dr. Rajgopal among others were present.
