Mangaluru Priest Fr Alexander Lobo passes away-1

Mangaluru: Fr Alexander Lobo, Priest of Mangalore Diocese passed away at Fr Muller Hospital on July 23. His funeral will be held at Valencia Church on Wednesday, July 25, at 3.30 pm.

Fr.Alexander Lobo was born in Barebail, now in the Derebail Parish Mangalore on 12-12-1933 to Marian Lobo and Piad Lobo. He had his early education at Bejai School and High School at Padua School. He joined the Jeppu Seminary for the priestly education. During this period he studied at the St. Aloysius College for B.Sc. and at the Government College of Education, Mangalore for B.Ed. He was ordained on March 2, 1959. He also received an M.A. degree from Karnataka University, Dharwad.

Fr. Lobo has served as an Assistant Parish Priest at Milagres Parish, Kallianpur and then at Puttur as Warden of St. Philomena Educational Institutions. He served as Asst. Parish Priest and Headmaster of the High School at Kundapur for 7 years. While he was at Bolkunje, Fr. Lobo started the high school and at Moodubelle he founded the junior college. He served at Rosario High School, Mangalore for 9 years.

Fr Lobo had a keen interest in educating students. He devoted not only his working hours but also his leisurely time for the poor and weak. He conducted remedial classes for those students who were poor at studies.

Recognising his services to the society and the field of education, the government of Karnataka felicitated Fr Lobo with state-level "Best Teacher Award - 1990". He retired as a teacher in 1991.

Post his retirement, Fr. Lobo served as a Parish Priest at Madanthyar for a short term and then at Allipade for 7 years. From 2003 till his retirement, Fr. Lobo served as the Parish Priest of St. John the Evangelist Church, (Pangala Parish), Shankerpura.
