Mangaluru Press Club Award-2017 conferred on entrepreneur Ganesh Kamath

Mangaluru: A committee headed by former Vice Chancellor of Hampi Kannada University Vivek Rai, well-known theatre director Sadananda Suvarna and retired professor of Roshni Nilaya Rita Noronha has chosen Ganesh Kamath for the third Mangaluru Press Club Award-2017.

The award will be presented during the Mangaluru Press Club Day celebrations to be held at Urwa Church Hall in Ladyhill on 6 January 2018. The award comprises a cash prize of Rs 10,001, a citation and memento.

In 2001, Ganesh Kamath lost both his hands after suffering an electric shock at Karkala. However, he was undeterred by his physical disability and with immense efforts turned his anomaly into advantage. Now Kamath has turned a successful entrepreneur and employs around 45 people.

Kamath who grew up in poverty, had to drop out from school after completing his 7th grade and joined a pandal entrepreneur to earn money at the age of 12. Following the accident in 2001, Kamath started his own business by renting sound systems to small functions and marriages. What he started as a small venture has now grown big with Kamath offering jobs to 45 persons at G K Decorators and he makes arrangements for mega events like Dharma Samsad, Tuluvera Parba in Adyar and Mahamasthakabhisheka in Karakala.
