Mangaluru: Mangalore University is all set to introduce Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in degree courses from the next academic year.
According to this new system, a student of one stream can take and study a subject of another stream in the first two years of three years’ course. It is an opportunity for the students to study a different subject. For example, an art student can take one subject of commerce or science. However, they can study that subject in four semesters of the first two years. There is no such opportunity in the final year.
The university is all set to adopt this new system in the new syllabus of 2019-2020. University has already convened a meeting in this regard inviting education experts and decided to implement it from the next academic year. Earlier, Mangalore University had adopted this system for the postgraduate students only. But, it is now extending to the degree courses too.
Mangalore University In-charge Vice Chancellor Dr. Kishore Kumar says it is an opportunity for the students to study a new subject. This system helps to enhance the knowledge of students, he added.
