Mangaluru: On taking oath as President of Mangalore Toastmasters Club, President Sapna Shenoy listed out a 15-item agenda to celebrate completing 15 years of Mangalore Toastmasters Club. The first item on the list was Vanamahotsava or planting of trees. True to her words, the diligent TM Sapna who had already picked 15 fruit plants on the installation day itself, decided that we would begin this program without much delay.
So, on Saturday, July 14, MTM launched the Vanamahotsava by planting a lemon sapling at TM Max Rasquinha’s garden where the Toastmasters movement took root in the city of Mangalore more than 15 years ago.
The tree planting was done by the illustrious entrepreneur and environmentalist Jeeth Milan Roche who is the founder of the Mangalore Green Brigade and has made it his life’s mission to plant trees all over the city. Roche has invested a significant part of his income to the cause of re-greening Mangalore and has planted over 50,000 saplings since he began working on this in 2004. MTM gifted one of the plants to Jeeth as a token of its appreciation.
Many members of MTM, as well as other toastmasters’ clubs of Mangaluru, participated in this program to show their solidarity and support the cause of greening Mangaluru. The remaining 13 plants were distributed among the members of Mangalore Toastmasters Club. The program ended with refreshments.
