Mangaluru: The city saw heavy rains on Thursday, July 18, causing a flood-like situation in the low lying areas. The Central Railway Station at the heart of the city, especially, saw severe flooding.

Reportedly, the train operations were not affected, however, the entrance to the station was flooded leaving the passengers no choice but to wade through knee-deep water to reach the platforms.

The Railway Mail Service (RMS) office, where mail and other consignments are stored, was also flooded with rain water. The employees had to struggle to protect the consignments from getting damaged.

Flood water also entered the station building.

Officials at the railway station have blamed the Mangaluru City Corporation for not constructing drains properly.

It can be recalled that last year, Mangaluru saw severe flooding in several parts. The Railway Station was also among the many places that were inundated by the heavy rains.
