Mangaluru: Members of Mangalore Bar Association protested by burning the recommendations draft of The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2017 proposed by the Law Commission.
The protest was held at the premises of district court here on April 21.
Dinakar Shetty, General Secretary of Mangalore Bar Association, terming the recommendations of The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2017 as “unconstitutional”, said, “Union government should reject these recommendations of Law Commission. If not done by May 1, the Bar Council of India (BCI) will hold a protest rally outside the court of Patiala House, Delhi.” BCI has submitted a memorandum to union government and law minister opposing the Law commission’s recommendation, he said.
Protesters also demanded the resignation of B S Chauhan, Chairperson of Law Commission and also urged the union government to drop the recommendations.
Mangalore Bar Association Vice President Pushpalatha U K, Sujith, Prafulla, Dinesh Hegde, Pramod and others were present.
