Manglauru: Mandd Sobhann presented its 200th “Moinalyali Manchi” at the Kalangann in Shakthinagar on Sunday, August 5. This was a great milestone for the organisation as it has been conducting the shows every first Sunday of the month for more than 16 years despite financial constraints.

The soulful Konkani musical rendition by well-known singers, led by Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario at the milestone show titled “Aputt” (meaning pure in Konkani) captivated the audience.

Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Council and chief guest of the event, Michael Lobo, congratulated the efforts of the Mandd Sobhann in preserving and propagating the Konkani culture and performing arts. “I am aware of the sacrifices of Mandd Sobhann for preserving the continuity of Konkani culture. The show can give any international event a run for its money,” he said and extended an invitation to the team to present the same show in Goa.

Lobo also unveiled a portrait of one of the founders of Mandd Sobhann, Lawrence Pinto, painted by artist Wilson Kayyar. He also launched the book “Shekdya Voir Shekdo” written by Vitori Karkal detailing all the “Moinyali Manchi’ programmes conducted over the past 16 years and 8 months. Sponsors of the event, Friends of Lori and artistes were felicitated on the occasion.

Poems of famous Konkani writers and lyricists including Chafra D’Costa, Melwyn Rodrigues, Yusuf Sheikh, Aruna V Kamath, Red Kumar, Shridhar Kamath, Uday Bhembre, Jossy Pinto and Loyd Rego from Karnataka, Goa, and Mumbai were chosen and incorporated by Eric Ozario into the musicals that were performed at the event.

Talented artistes including Butto (flute), Manoj George (violin), Cajetan Dias (keyboard), Alwyn Fernandes (guitar), Deepakraj Ullal (tabla), Jerome Coelho (bass) and Sachin Sequeira (percussions) and Ishan Fernandes (guitar) provided an enthralling musical accompaniment to the compositions.

Titus Noronha was the music conductor for the evening and Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the event.
