Mangaluru: A person from Kadandale in Moodbidri, who committed suicide yesterday, tested positive for Covid-19 today, May 22.

With this, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Dakshina Kannada district has risen to 63.

The 55-year-old, who had recently arrived from Mumbai, was kept under quarantine at a school in Kadandale in Moodbidri two days ago. However, fearing a coronavirus infection, he committed suicide at the quarantine centre in the wee hours of Thursday.

His COVID-19 test results came back positive today.

According to a report by TOI, the man was employed at a hotel in Mumbai but lost his job due to the lockdown. It is believed that financial uncertainty might have been the reason for the man to take the extreme step.
