Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Police have nabbed a person named Manjunath (51), a resident of Davangere, from whom they have recovered Rs 21 Lakh unaccounted cash, here on Saturday, May 18.
According to sources, the Mangaluru North Police had received confirmed information of a person moving suspiciously. The police, who were on their usual beat in Car Street area on Saturday morning, had seen Manjunath walking in a suspicious manner. On stopping and inquiring him, they found Rs 24 Lakh cash with him, which he claimed was to be handed over to someone. However, he did not reveal anything about the source of cash or its destination.
The police sources have confirmed Manjunath’s arrest and seizure of unaccounted money.
It may be recalled that yesterday, another accused by the same name, Manjunath (56), a resident of Malleshwaram, Bengaluru was nabbed while transporting Rs 1 Crore unaccounted cash in the same Car Street area. This accused had mentioned about a jeweller Raju Pawar. The Income Tax Department officials had raided Raju’s residence on Saturday morning following an intimation by the Mangaluru North Police.
According to police sources, the I-T officials have recovered some important documents from Raju’s house and investigations are on.
