In the verdict, the court also slapped a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict. If he fails to pay the fine, the convict has to undergo three years additional imprisonment, the order said.
It may be recalled that on 9 July 2015, Vijayan had stabbed an eight-year-old boy Mohammed Fahad, while he was on his way to school along with his sister. Though the locals who gathered at the spot rushed an injured Fahad to the hospital, he could not be saved.
Within an hour after the incident, locals handed over Vijayan to the police.
Police had revealed that Vijayan’s enmity with Fahad’s father was the reason for the killing. Hosadurga Police Inspector Preman had submitted the chargesheet to the Hosadurga Judicial Court. Later the case was transferred to Kasargod District Sessions Court. The court had examined 60 witnesses in the case to arrive at the verdict. Additional Public Prosecutor P Raghavan presented argument in favour of the victim.
