M N Rajendra Kumar presented Sahakari Bhushan award

Mangaluru: “In order to achieve self-sufficiency in producing fertilizers and to provide them to the farmers at very less price, the union government has planned to start a fertilizer plant in Karnataka for which the Karnataka State Marketing Federation has already come forward to invest Rs 6000 Crore for the same”, informed Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers D V Sadananda Gowda on Saturday.

He was addressing a gathering at a grand programme organised at the Nehru Maidan to mark M N Rajendra Kumar’s completion of 25 years as the president of SCDC Bank. Sadananda Gowda said, “In order to produce more fertilizers, the union government is now trying to revive those fertilizer plants which are shut down already. Hence, the union government will not be able to start new fertilizers plant. It expects the cooperation of private firms to start the new fertilizer plants. As Karnataka State Marketing Federation President M N Rajendra Kumar has already consented to invest over Rs 6000 Crore to start the plant, the state government should allocate proper land for the same”, he informed.

Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr. D Veerendra Heggade presented the ‘Sahakari Bhushana’ award to M N Rajendra Kumar. The guests at the programme garlanded M N Rajendra Kumar and Aruna R Kumar couple with 25 kgs of flowers which comprised of 25 different varieties of flowers.

After presenting the award to Rajendra Kumar, Veerendra Heggade lauded his efforts in empowering the rural people with self-help group ‘Navodaya’. “The members of the self-help group and cooperative societies should feel very proud as their sincere work has led to the empowerment of many. Though some of the members may be illiterates in the self-help group, they have the knowledge of handling their financial problems. It was possible only due to their association with self-help groups”, he said.

After receiving the award, M N Rajendra Kumar said no farmer from Dakshina Kannada district had committed suicide due to the financial burden so far. “The credit must go to the co-operative societies as they provide loans to the farmers and helps them during their financial need. Unlike in other districts, the farmers in DK district repay the loans on time”, he said.

Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Minister for Co-operation Bandeppa Kashempur, leader of the opposition in Karnataka Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary among others also spoke on the occasion and lauded the efforts of M N Rajendra Kumar.

A book ‘Sahakari Veera’ penned by senior journalist P B Hareesh Rai was released by Dr. D Veerendra Heggade on the same occasion. A souvenir to mark the completion of 25 years by the president of SCDCC Bank was also released at the programme. Meanwhile, state government’s ‘Badavara Bandhu’ programme was officially inaugurated on the same occasion by handing over cheques to the beneficiaries.

Prior to the programme, a grand procession was taken out near from SCDCC Bank, Kodialbail, in which thousands of people participated.
