LS polls: Police security measures in place

Mangaluru: To ensure smooth functioning of the Lok Sabha polling process, the police department has already taken all the necessary precautionary measures in the whole of Dakshina Kannada district.

Informing about the security measures, Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil told reporters on Monday, April 17, that 1500 police constables, 2 DCPs, 7 DySPACPs, 16 PIs, 37 PSIs, 79 ASIs, 2 Central Armed Police Force platoons, 8 KSRP, and 12 CAR platoons will be deployed at the key points within the Mangaluru police commissionerate limits. Among the total number of 883 polling booths, 220 are considered sensitive and 663 normal.”

“Out of 220 sensitive booths, 156 booths will be guarded by the Central Armed Police Force, while rest of the booths will be manned by micro observers and media observers”, Patil added.

Informing about the precautionary measures concerning criminals, Patil said, “Preventive cases have been booked against 430 criminals within the city limits and a total of 17 rowdies have been deported. Check posts have been set up at 21 different locations which include 10 static surveillance teams and 11 police check posts.”

Police to get kits

It is for the first time that the police on polling duty are being provided with kits. Patil said that the kit comprises two biscuit packs, shaving kit, candle, matchbox, toothbrush, paste and mosquito repellent cream.
