Mangaluru: With not much time left for the Lok Sabha elections in Dakshina Kannada district, preparations are in full swing to ensure smooth functioning of election procedures. Polling officials and the personnel deputed on poll duty reported at the mustering centres at Rosario PU College, Canara High School, Urwa and Ramakrishna College near Bunts Hostel.
Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units are being used along with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The polling personnel waited in groups for their turn to collect the election-related material and electronic voting machines as well as VVPATs.
The mustering process was carried out successfully after which the polling staff left for their respective polling stations along with the polling materials. They also transported first aid kits provided by the Election Commission.
Buses have been arranged to transport poll materials and drop people on time from mustering centers. The mustering process was completed smoothly. A total of 79 buses were arranged for polling personnel to be transported to their respective polling stations.
In order to conduct smooth and peaceful election, necessary steps have been taken which include installation of video surveillance team, flying squad, static surveillance team, sector officer team, video viewing team among others.
Suitable arrangements for accommodation, furniture, food, drinking water, toilet facilities along with electricity for the polling personnel have been made. Welfare kits also have been provided to all the polling personnel which includes essential materials like toothpaste, soap, coconut oil sachet, mosquito paper coil, comb and match box.
The polling personnel is also being provided with basic medical kit, which comprises paracetamol tablets, Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS), bandage, gauze pad, iodine ointment and gloves.
