LS polls: 34 check posts across district to keep vigil

Mangaluru: In order to conduct free and fair election and to check malpractices, Dakshina Kannada district has been operating 34 check-posts in various parts of the district. Meanwhile, the election flying squad officials arrested two people and seized BJP pamphlets at Nanthoor check post.

The arrested have been identified as Ashwin (25) and Arun Kumar (26), residents of Manjeshwar in Kasargod district. Sources from police informed that both were allegedly transporting 220 pamphlets of the BJP, which did not bear the name and address of the printer or the number of copies printed. A case was registered under Section 127 (A) of the Representation of the People Act.

Dharmastala police arrested two people on the charges of transporting 8.640 litres of liquor in an autorickshaw at Thotathadi in Belthangady Taluk. According to Superintendent of Police B M Lakshmi Prasad, the arrested are Lokesh and Thimmappa, residents of Neriya village. There were totally 48 liquor bottles being transported. A case was registered under Section 32 and 34 of the Karnataka Excise Act.

In a separate incident, the Uppinangady police seized 7.740 litres of liquor from a person named Nagappa Gowda. He had sachets of whiskey in his possession.
