Mangaluru: Close on the heels of Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s (VHP) scheduled meeting at Nehru Maidan, the sale of liquor has been banned in the whole of Dakshina Kannada district on November 25 from 6 AM to midnight.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil, in a press release, informed that over 10,000 people are expected to participate in the meeting. As the district had witnessed some untoward incidents during such meetings in the past, the sale of liquor in Dakshina Kannada district is banned on that day. Hence, all bar and restaurants and liquor shops should be shut on November 25, between 6 AM and midnight, the press release said.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in association with other Hindu outfits has planned to organise a mass meeting at Nehru Maidan on November 25, in order to mount pressure on the central government to construct Ram Mandir in Ayodhya at the earliest. It is expected that people from all taluk centers would come and participate in the meeting in large numbers.
It may be recalled that during the Hindu Samajotsava programme in Puttur in the year 2015, some miscreants had pelted stones on the vehicles while people were returning from the meeting. In retaliation, another group pelted stones on mosque, which created tension in the area. In order to prevent such situations, the district administration has taken all the requisite measures including ban on liquor sale.
