Mangaluru: Due to fresh landslips on the Ghat section between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road, Bengaluru-Mangaluru passenger train services have been disrupted. With this, the South Western Railway (SWR) has cancelled some trains and is diverting a few others.
Incessant rains led to caving in of hillock on the track near Siribagilu in the Ghat section since Sunday evening. Even as the restoration works were in progress, the second landslide happened on the same stretch. Though it was expected that the tracks would be cleared by Tuesday evening and night trains would be operated on the stretch, the clearance work took long time and with the restoration work still going on, the railway department has decided to alter the services.
While the Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru tri-weekly overnight express (Train 16585) that commenced its journey on Tuesday night was short terminated at Hassan and cancelled between Hassan and Mangaluru, Train No. 16515, Yeshwantpur-Karwar tri-weekly express that was to leave Yeshwantpur at 7.10 am on Wednesday was cancelled.
The Bengaluru-Kannur-Karwar overnight express via Mysuru (Train 16517/523) that left Mangaluru on Tuesday night was diverted to run via Salem, Palakkad and Shoranur while Kannur/Karwar-Bengaluru overnight express via Shravanabelagola (16512/16514) that left on Tuesday night was diverted via Palakkad and Salem.
Train No 16523 Bengaluru-Karwar overnight Express journey commencing on Tuesday would be short terminated at Mangaluru Central on its arrival on Wednesday morning and would not run to Karwar.
Train No. 16524 Karwar-Bengaluru overnight Express of Wednesday is partially cancelled between Karwar and Mangaluru and would start its journey from Mangaluru.
Train No 16576 Mangaluru Junction - Yashwantpur Express and Train No 16586 Mangaluru Central -Yashwantpur Express (Aug 7) has been cancelled.
