Mangaluru: The members of Bhrashtachara Virodha Jagruta Seva Dala (R), Moodbidri urged the Moodbidri Town Municipality to install a proper drainage system after claiming that apartments being built in the area discharge wastewater in open spaces, which may lead to the spread of deadly diseases.
Seva Dala President Hariprasad Nayak told mediapersons here on Tuesday, August 13 that the concerned officials at Moodbidri Town Municipality do not respond to the grievances of the public despite repeated complaints.
Accusing an apartment located on Doddamane Road, which is in the jurisdiction of the Moodbidri Town Municipality, Nayak said, “The wastewater being discharged from this apartment flows near the premises of an elderly woman’s home, Lakshmi Sanjeeva, who has been living in her house alone. If the sewage water is continuously discharged in the future as well, then definitely the residents of the surrounding areas will be infected with contagious diseases. If there is a proper drainage system in the jurisdiction of the Moodbidri Town Municipality, such instances will not happen.”
Lakshmi Sanjeeva, being present at the press conference, said that she had written a letter to all the elected representatives about the foul smell emanating from the apartment’s sewage water, but they have turned a deaf year to her complaint. “The apartment owner threated me as I had asked him not to discharge the wastewater near my home. Though I filed a complaint in this regard at the Moodbidri Police Station, I have not been given justice so far”, she lamented with teary eyes.
Seva Dala members Narayana Kadalakere, Sudheendra Prasad, and Vishwanth Bovi were present.
