Mangaluru: The Kudroli temple turned into a world of lamps as hundreds of basket lamps were seen hanging at the premises on Saturday. October 26 evening. As Tulu cable channel, ‘Namma Kudla’ organised the basket lamp (Goodudeepa) competition at the temple premises, hundreds of basket lamp makers thronged the premises to participate in the annual competition. Even kids were seen showing and speaking about their various basket lamps with enthusiasm.
There were three categories for participants to enrol in the competition – traditional, modern and model. Hundreds of basket lamps were made and entered into the competition under the aforementioned categories. The organisers had instructed the participants to be at the venue by 4 PM, however, they were seen rushing to the temple even after the deadline. This showed their zeal to participate in the Goodudeepa competition. Winners and first runners-up in each category were presented with gold medals and those who secured the third position were awarded silver medals. Consolation prizes were also given to participants in each category.
On the occasion, after the Goodudeepa prize distribution ceremony, there was another award ceremony. Here, Karnataka Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) M S Mahabaleshwar Rao was conferred with the ‘Namma Kudla’ award and Dakshina Kannada district Theatre Artists Federation president Kishore D Shetty was presented the ‘Namma Tuluver’ award. District Rajyotsava awardee Jagadishchandra Anchan Sootarpete and international weightlifter Sathvik Alevooraya were presented with the ‘Namma Kudla Sadhana’ award.
Meanwhile, an organisation named ‘Boloor Mogaveera Sabha’ was presented the ‘Shri B P Karkera Award’ for their social service.
