Mangalore: “Around 16 youths in the district are apprehended as rowdy-sheeters without having an actual criminal record”, said Sullia Town Panchayat member KM Musthafa during a meeting initiated by Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) member Meera Saxena at DC Office on Saturday January 18.
KM Musthafa noted that there are youths in the district that were booked for communal riots in 1997 and were exonerated by the court in 1999. Although as per the police records they have been termed as rowdy-sheeters which have made it difficult for youths to acquire a passport in their names.
Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) member Meera Saxena assured to look into the matter and said will hold a proper discussion with the superintendent of police Shanthanu Sinha about the issue.
Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim, Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Tulsi Maddineni and additional deputy commissioner KA Dayanand were present.
