Mangaluru: Minister for Muzrai, Kota Srinivas Poojary instructed the district administration to take all appropriate measures to organise mass marriages in all ‘A’ grade temples coming under the Muzrai department.

Addressing the officials at his office on Tuesday, November 26, Poojary said that the government would pay Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 to the brides and bridegrooms respectively, in order to meet the marriage expenses. Meanwhile, the couples will be given a gold tali worth Rs 40,000 and earrings weighing around 8 grams.

The Muzrai department has framed 24 criteria for couples to be eligible to participate in the mass marriage. The couples have to register at the prescribed temples 30 days in advance and the list of couples will officially be notified. The mass marriage will be organised either on April 26 or May 24, 2020. During the programme, a marriage registration officer and district women and child welfare officer should be present,” he said.

Meanwhile, the minister warned that strict action would be taken against those couples who furnish fake documents to get married in the mass marriage programme.

MLAs Dr Y Bharath Shetty, Umanath Kotian, Rajesh Naik, Sanjeeva Matandoor, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh and ADC Roopa were present.
