Konkani Natak Sabha inaugurates cultural competitions for 2019

Mangaluru: Several annual competitions of the Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) were inaugurated at the Don Bosco Hall, here on Sunday, August 4.

The competitions were formally inaugurated by Dr Austin D’Souza Prabhu by lighting the lamp. On this occasion, he released the Platinum Jubilee Souvenir ‘Kalamruth’ and applauded the achievements of the cultural association. Referring to the elocution competition, Prabhu said that properly expressing our thoughts was the need of the hour. We should be competitors for life irrespective of prizes, he added.

The 2019 annual competitions include elocution, singing, fancy-dress, dance, poetry recital and vovio verse.

The first competition to be held was the 52nd Elocution Competition, which was held for three categories: 5 to 10 years, 10 to 16 years, and 16 to 35 years.

As many as 28 competitors from 16 parishes took part in the 5 to 10 years category. Among the girls, Aldreena Diya Rodrigues from the Bendur Parish bagged the first place, Elma Gabriyela Noronha from Cascia and Ninish Prasha Monteiro from the Bondel Parish stood in second place and Samantha Rosario from Milagres and Risha Jevel Fernandes from the Urwa Parish secured the third place. Among the boys, Denith Rodrigues from the Bondel Parish bagged the first place, Bren Garick D’souza from the Permannur Parish stood second and Arvin Lobo from the Permannur Parish stood third.

In the 10 to 16 years category, 23 competitors from 15 parishes took part. Among the girls, Sezel D’Souza from the Mudipu Parish bagged the first place, Elain Jiya Fernandes from the Bellore Parish stood second, and Jonita Pinto from the Vitla Parish and Rishel Monteiro from the Permannur Parish took the third place. Among the boys, Lenn Shawn Sequeira from the Derebail Parish bagged the first place, Viyon Preston Lobo from the Bantwal Parish stood in second place, and Arvin Chris D’Cunha from the Cordel Parish came in third.

As many as eight competitors from seven parishes took part in the 16 to 35 years category. Among the women, Sushmitha Jane Tauro from the Bantwal Parish bagged the first place, Preema D’Souza from the Derebail Parish came in second and Joyce Maria Miranda from the Ferar Parish stood third. In the gents’ category, Loyston Fernandes from the Milagres Parish bagged first place and Ashwin D’Souza from the Mudipu Parish stood in second place.

Celestine D’Souza (Madyanthar), Walter Monteiro (Belman), and Jochim D’Souza (Kadaba) were the judges for the competition.

President Fr Paul Melwin D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Cyril G. Sequeira compered the stage programme, while Raymond D’Cunha introduced the judges and proposed the vote of thanks. Clitus Lobo and Jossy Theodore compered the elocution competition.

KNS President Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza, Vice President Sunil Menezes, Secretary Judi D’Souza, Joint Secretary Floyd D’Mello, Treasurer Jerry Concessao, competition conveners Raymond D’Cunha, Liston D’Souza, and Jossy Theodore were present.
