Mangaluru: Konkani movie "Benddkar" was released at Big Cinemas on Friday, November 22, and received a good response from the audience.
It can be noted that "Benddkar" has already been released in the Gulf region and received good response there as well. The producers of the movie had a brief release programme in Big Cinemas on Friday, wherein St Lawrence Church, Bondel parish priest Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza invoked the almighty's blessings on the movie team.
Speaking on the occasion, former MLA J R Lobo said that the movie has already garnered appreciation in the UAE. “Every Konkani speaking individual knows that "Benddkar" is part of the Konkani culture. This movie reflects Konkani culture and the lifestyle associated with the culture, as well as the story of Benddkars," he said.
Konkani Sahitya Academy former president Roy Castelino said, "In the olden days, no programme would be conducted without ‘Benddkar’ in the Konkani community. But now, the times have changed. Brass band artistes are becoming a rarity in our society.”
The story, screenplay, dialogues and direction of the film has been done by Harry Fernandes. As the present generation has completely forgotten 'Benddkars' with the invasion of modern-day DJs, Harry intended to focus and highlight the importance of 'Benddkars' through this movie. He is supported by producers Stany Alvares, Dolphi Rebello and Prince Jacob.
The cast includes Varsha Usgaonkar, Goa’s Prince Jacob, John D’Silva, Kevin D’Mello and Naisa Lotlekar with Mangaluru’s well-known star Stany Alvares, Dubai’s stars Deepak Paladka, Joseph Mathias, Sunitha Menezes and Claud D’Leema with Cyril Castelino, Sneha Metha, Sujatha Andrade, Alwyn Andrade, Manu Bantwal, Nikita Peris, Dolphy D’Souza, Ivan Furtado, Hannah Furtado, Archibald Furtado, Salomi Alvares, and Floyd Cascia.
