Surathkal: In what is considered to be a bad omen, the Kodi Mara (a wooden pillar erected outside temples in South India) of Kodaminattaya shrine at Shibaruru came crashing down due to the heavy winds on Saturday night.
The pillar fell on the roof top of the Daivasthana damaging it. People consider this to be a signal of an impending disaster.
“It is a signal given by the deity,” said a senior citizen of the town.
The Kodimara had been resurrected a few years ago.
A similar incident has also been reported from Sasitthala Sarantha Garodi where the Kodi Mara is said to have cracked sending a sense of fear among people.
