Mangaluru: Alleging that the Kerala government was forcibly enforcing Malayalam language and trying to shut down Kannada schools in Kasargod district, the Karnataka Navanirmana Sene (KNS) is planning to picket Parliamentary House at New Delhi on November 28.

Karnataka Navanirmana Sene State President Bhimashankar Patil told reporters at Patrika Bhavan on Tuesday, October 30 that a total of 1000 activists from the organisation would participate in the scheduled picketing programme at New Delhi. “Our demand is not to enforce the Malayalam language in Kasargod district as it is located near to Dakshina Kannada district, a border district of Karnataka. Though the Mahajan Committee report favoured the inclusion of Kasargod district into Karnataka, not a single Lok Sabha member from Karnataka raised their voice in the Parliament in this regard so far”, he lamented.

Patil clarified that he is not against enforcing the Malayalam language anywhere in Kerala state, except Kasargod district as most of the people residing in Kasargod district speak the Kannada language. “As the people are speaking Kannada and closely associated with the Dakshina Kannada district, Malayalam language should not be enforced on them”, he said.

‘Invite representatives from Kasargod while celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava in DK district’
Meanwhile, Patil opposed the move of Dakshina Kannada district of not inviting any representative from Kasargod district while celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava in Mangaluru. “Not a single person from Kasargod district is being invited while the Dakshina Kannada district celebrates Kannada Rajyotsava. As Kasargod district is closely connected with the Dakshina Kannada district and many writers from Kasargod district contributed to Kannada language and literature, the people from here should not be sidelined”, he stressed.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat former state president Harikrishna Punaroor and Karavali Foundation President Shivaram Kasargod among others were present.
