KIMS M’luru holds orientation programme for new MBBS students

Mangaluru: The Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences organised an orientation programme for the fourth batch of MBBS students and their parents in Natekal, Mangaluru on September 7. The lecture halls of the institution’s Academic Block ‘B’ witnessed a sea of parents with their wards, as the new batch comprises over 150 students.

The chief guest for the event was RGUHS syndicate member Dr U T Ifthikar Ali. KIMS Associate Dean Dr Sreesha Khandige welcomed the gathering to the programme.

In his address, College Dean Dr Virupaksha helped the students and parents realise the essence of Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences and briefed them on the institution’s several features such as a 650-bed tertiary healthcare teaching facility. He also spoke a little on the fact that the institution is affiliated to the reputed government university – Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

Addressing the students, Dr U T Ifthikar Ali infused a sense of understanding into the students while stressing on discipline and hard work.

Dr Abida Hashim went down memory lane and informed the students that life in a medical college is about sheer hard work. Later, KIMS Director Abdul Rahiman mentioned that KIMS, Mangaluru was one of the top 3 institutes with the best results in the state and lauded the efforts of his faculty in achieving this feat.

In his presidential address, KIMS Chairman U K Monu emphasised that students should use all the possible facilities in the campus and bring laurels to the university through their activities. He also insisted that parents keep in close touch with the progress of their wards.

Afterwards, Dr Shishir delivered the vote of thanks. The event was compered by Microbiology Department Assistant Professor Dr Annet.

Medical Superintendent Dr Deviprasad Shetty, Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre CEO Dr Rohan Monis, and KIMS Trustees Zohara Monu, Umaya Banu, Dr Abida Hashim and Sahada Rahiman were present at the event.
