Mangaluru: As repeated incidents of cattle theft, drugs peddling and illegal transportation of sand among others have been reported in the recent days, the Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader convened a meeting with the elected representatives, police department and deputy commissioner of the district on Monday, July 1.
The meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office and Khader instructed the police to take stringent action against those involved in illegal activities. He also instructed the police not to allow the public to take law into their hands. At the same time, he directed the police that those legally transporting cattle and sand, should not be disturbed.
Pointing at the previous incidents of communal violence following cattle theft, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath and Rajesh Naik urged the police department to take the issue seriously. They expressed concern that such incidents would lead to communal violence in the district.
Prior to this meeting, Khader had visited Wenlock Hospital and organised a meeting with the members of hospital committee with regard to the existing and the much-needed facilities. After the meeting, Khader told reporters that in order to treat cancer and heart disease, separate units will be started at Wenlock Hospital with an advanced system of treatment. He also informed that the in intensive care units will be increased to 35 soon.
