Mangaluru: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy on March 20, announced the awards for the year 2017. The academy honours the individuals who have contributed to the fields of literature, folk arts and Yakshagana in Tulu language every year.
The press release said that Dr. N Narayana Shetty, Sesappa Pambada and Shakuntala Bhat had been chosen for the Honorary Award-2017 for their contributions to Tulu Yakshagana, Tulu folk and Tulu literature respectively.
Also, three literary works have been chosen for the Tulu Book Prize-2017. “Tulunadina Janapada Pradarshana Kalegalu” written by Dr. Palthady Ramakrishna Achar won the prize in literary research category. “Padippire” by Roopakala Alva won the prize for Tulu poetry. “Gaggara” written by Shimanthooru Chandrahasa Suvarna won the prize in the Tulu play section.
The awards will be distributed on April 7 at Tulu Bhavana, the press release added.
