Kambala jockey Srinivas Gowda creates record by winning most no. of medals

Mangaluru: Kambala jockey Srinivas Gowda, who was hailed and lauded by everyone for beating sprinter and Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt’s record (100 meters in 9.58 seconds) by running a distance of 100 meters in 9.55 seconds during a traditional buffalo running race, will be setting another record soon.

According to reports, in the current Kambala season held at Venur Kambala, Srinivas has secured 35 medals, a new record.

As per statements by Kambala Academy member Gunapal, Kambala jockey Hukkeri Suresh Shetty had won 32 medals in 17 Kambalas. Hence, Srinivas has beaten this record by three medals.

He has also created another record by winning 12 consecutive gold medals.

Meanwhile, another Kambala jockey Nakre Jayakar Madiwala has also created a record by consecutively winning 13 gold medals.

It can be recalled that Srinivas had completed a mud water sprint of 142.50 meters in 13.62 seconds, in a recent Kambala held at Moodabidri. After this, he was compared with sprinter Usain Bolt and also went on to be named as “Usain Bolt of Kambala”. He was praised by including Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, and other state and Union leaders.

Srinivas Gowda, was recently felicitated by CM BSY, state tourism and Kannada and culture minister C T Ravi and state labour minister Shivaram Hebbar at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
