Kadri temple Brahmakalashotsava: Grand ‘Hore Kanike’ procession held in city

Mangaluru: With the historic Kadri Manjunatha temple all set for the Brahmakalashotsava, a grand ‘Hore Kanike’ (donation in kind) procession was organised at Nehru Maidan on Friday, May 3.

Vehicles laden with paddy, vegetables, coconuts, jaggery, sugar and other food items were taken out in a grand procession to the temple where the offerings were made. People gathered in the Maidan at around 3 PM, registered their vehicles and submitted a list of their offerings.

There was a festive spirit in Nehru Maidan with tableaux, bands by various youth organisations, the traditional chende performance and dancers wearing costumes of dolls and Yakshagana characters among others.

The procession was flagged off by Vedamurthy Vittaladasa Thantri which later, passed through A B Shetty Circle, K S Rao Road, PVS Circle, Bunts Hostel Circle before culminating in the Kadri temple. The offerings will be used for the preparation of ‘Maha Annasantharpane.’
