Mangaluru: Senior journalist and theatre artiste Naveen Chandra Pal (93) passed away on Saturday June 5. The deceased leaves behind a son and a daughter.
He was a recipient of a Gold Medal during his days of Diploma in Journalism. He was a proponent of socialist thought. In 1948, he started a bi-weekly newspaper, Sangaati, which later became a weekly newspaper in 1950. He was also the editor of Arunodaya magazine.
In Mumbai, he served as the PRO and Senior Executive at Indian Express, Assistant Editor at the Enlight, a weekly, and Assistant Editor at Commerce, a weekly. He was also a student leader when he was a college student. He had participated in the Quit India Movement and contested to the Assembly in 1957 from the Kaup constituency under the Janata Socialist Party. He was a close associate of the freedom fighter, and socialist Ammembala Balappa, and was actively involved socially and academically. His achievements have been honored by several organisations.
He was recipient of Vishu Kumar Award by Yuva Vahini Central Committee. Brahmashree Narayana Guru Swamy Prakashana and Charitable Trust, Bejai in 2013 also honoured Pal with Atmashakthi decennial celebration special award.
