Mangaluru: Janata Dal (S) will not take part in the ‘Samarasya Nadige Sauhardatheyedege’ which is to be held on December 12, said the party’s Dakshina Kannada District President B Mohammed Kunhi on December 7.

Addressing a press meet here, Mohammed Kunhi said that District In-charge Minister Ramanath Rai had invited them but the JD(S) would oppose the “Samarasya Nadige Sauhardatheyedege” (walk for harmony) from Farangipete to Mani. “The Congress government, in its four years of administration, has failed to protect the religious harmony in the district”, he stated.

Mohammed Kunhi also questioned the motives of the walk by asking why the Congress party did nothing to protect the religious harmony in the district in the last four years. “Why are ministers Ramanath Rai or U T Khader doing this walk when the elections are approaching?”, he asked.

“When the JD(S) had planned a peace walk under the initiative of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, the Congress government did not allow us to do so. Rai and Khader had prevented the walk, by politically pressurising the district administration”, he claimed.

He added that a few years ago, when Congress had organised a meet in Kalladka, stones were thrown at them. “Now they have organised the ‘Samarasya Nadige Sauhardatheyedege. How will they protect the common party workers, if such incidents takes place?”, he asked.

M K Abdul Khader, State Vice President for JD(S) Minority Wing, said that the party would hold a massive minority convention in Tumakuru in the premises of the government school. Nearly three lakh people from across the state will be taking part in this convention along with 10,000 party workers from the undivided Dakshina Kannada, he added.

Corporator Aziz Kudroli and Abdul Rauf Puttige were present at the press meet.
