Mangaluru: The district jail is in the news again, but for a major goof-up that the official did here.
It is said that two murder accused were released from the jail without bail from the court! However, they were arrested again after the prison officials realised their mistake.
Though the incident happened a few days ago, it came to light only when the accused approached their advocates to plan their further move.
Shivaji, a resident of Kadri George Martis Road and Jagadish, a resident of Kandettu near Bikarnakatte, are the undertrials who have got an opportunity of getting out of the jail even though they did not secure bail. Both Shivaji and Jagadish were jailed after they allegedly murdered Rohith Kotian near Bejai, KSRTC Bus stand on May 15, 2016.
As the hearing of the case has been going on in the district court, Court had served notice to both accused. But, the officials who received the notice on July 9, mistook court notice as the order of bail from the court. The procedures involved in releasing the undertrials were done at the jail.
When the accused met their lawyer, the latter was shocked and informed the district jail and the court.
After realising the mistakes, jail officials went to the houses of both accused and succeeded in detaining them again.
