Mangaluru: Chief Minister’s Parliamentary Secretary Ivan D’Souza informed that he had already written a letter to the election commission to take strict action against Nalin Kumar Kateel, claiming that he had violated election code of conduct by misusing social media.
Speaking to the reporters at district Congress office on Wednesday, March 13 Ivan said, Nalin had tweeted on March 11 that people should vote only for those who initiated action against terrorists and not those who force open the door of Supreme Court for the sake of a terrorist. “As Nalin is trying to take advantage of the airstrike of the Indian Air Force (IAF), election commission should take serious note of this and book a case against him,” he urged.
“The airstrike of the IAF is not the achievement of the BJP, but it is the achievement of our security forces. By claiming credit for the air strike, the BJP is insulting the IAF and the bravery of our military forces”, Ivan added.
Ivan also urged the district election officer to take action against those who question wedding and religious programmes, citing election code of conduct. ” Elections should not be treated as an emergency. It is a fest of Democracy. However, some officials threaten the public saying that they should get permission even to hold a wedding programme. There were complaints that management of the marriage halls in district insists to take permission from district election officer before holding events. Deputy Commissioner of the district should immediately ask its officials not to misuse the election commission guidelines in the pretext of election code of conduct”, he said.
District Congress president and MLC Hareesh Kumar and other Congress leaders like Jayaprakash Rai, Dhananjay Adpangaya, Ibrahim Kodijal, Savitha Ramesh and Yashodha were present.
