Mangaluru: Soon after rumours regarding the mysterious death of Cafe Coffee Day founder-chairman V G Siddhartha surfaced, Congress leader and MLC Ivan D’Souza urged the Union government to launch a high-level inquiry into the case, on Saturday, August 3.
Speaking to the reporters at the Circuit House, Ivan said, “There are rumours doing the rounds that the harassment by officials attached to Income Tax (IT) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) led to Siddhartha’s death. A letter, believed to be written by Siddhartha before his death, also mentions the same. Hence a case of abetment of suicide should be filed against the officials of both the IT Department and ED”.
Ivan opined that a people-friendly tax system should be implemented. “Due to the unscientific implementation of the Goods and Service Tax (GST), entrepreneurs are incurring losses. In order to cover up the mistakes of the GST implementation, officials are unnecessarily harassing the businessmen,” he claimed.
He also alleged that the Union government is favouring businessmen like Ambani and Adani, among others and neglecting honest businessmen. “In order to give justice to Siddhartha, a high-level inquiry must be conducted immediately,” he stressed.
