Belthangady: The Chikkamagaluru-Mangaluru national highway road connectivity has been disconnected due to massive landslides at Charmadi Ghat over the last few days.

According to the reports, it will take atleast four to five months for the vehicular movements to resume in the ghat section. The Charmadi Ghat, which experiences landslides almost every year during the monsoon, has witnessed worst caving in this year.

There has been not one but several landslides along the ghats for which the road repair and restoration work might take months together.

Charmadi Ghat consists of 11 hairpin curves and the road has been damaged from third to eleventh curve.  In seven places there have been minor landslides and in three places, the ghat has experienced major ones. Huge boulders and massive amount of loose mud have slid making it impossible to travel. In four places huge caverns have been formed due to landslides.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and forest department officials have been on the spot from several days and have been busy clearing the road.
