Mangaluru: Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries Jagadish Shettar informed that the state government will conduct an ‘Investors’ Summit’ either at the end of April or during the first week of May in Mangaluru.
Shettar was in city on Saturday, February 29, to participate in a meeting organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce for the development of industries in the coastal region. Presiding over the meeting, he informed that the state government is committed to providing basic facilities for the development of industries and attract investors to cities like Mangaluru, Mysuru, Hubballi, Kalaburgi, Belagavi and other tier-2 and 3 cities. “Hence, investors’ summits will be organised in various districts including Mangaluru. The intention is to develop industries in tier-2 and 3 cities,” he informed
He further said that the government will try to come up with a ‘middle path’ taxation system to reduce the tax burden on industries. “As the conversion of farmland for industrial purposes is a complex procedure, the state government intends to simplify it,” he added.
Pointing out to the tourism potential in the coastal region Shettar said, “Temples in the Dakshina Kannada district like Dharmastala, Subrahmanya, Muslim religious centre like Ullal Dargah and many Christian religious centres can be converted into tourists spots. Hence, proper measures will be undertaken in the coming days to realise the dream of turning the coastal region into a religious tourism spot. Prominence also needs to be given to beach tourism, wellness centres and others to boost the tourism sector in coastal area.”

Shettar also informed that direct flight services from Hubballi to Mangaluru will begin from March 29. He added that the government will also launch direct flights to Goa, Cochin and Pune from Mangaluru soon.
