Mangaluru: Five Indira Canteens in the limits of Mangaluru City Corporation and one in Ullal Town Municipal Limits will be functional from 1 January 2018.
Mayor Kavitha Sanil, on Tuesday, informed the media persons that five Indira Canteens would come up in the Mangaluru City Corporation limits and one in Ullal at Thokkottu from 1 January 2018.
“In Mangaluru, Indira Canteen will come up near Nehru Maidan adjoining the space opposite to Lady Goshen Hospital, Kankanady Market premises, Urwa Store in the premises of MUDA, Primary Health Centre at Surathkal, nearby the government school in Kavoor. The master kitchen for the Indira Canteens will be at Urwa Store”, she added.
The building for the Indira Canteens will be constructed by the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) at an estimated cost of Rs 2.97 Crore.
She also informed that every month, it may require nearly Rs 1 Crore for the maintenance of the canteens. The Karnataka government through the Labour Department will provide 30 percent and Mangaluru City Corporation has to bear the additional expenses for the maintenance, she added.
