Mangaluru: With the Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd (NECL) failing to complete the Pumpwell flyover work within the given time frame, District BJP unit headed by MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Y Bharth Shetty staged a protest at Talapady toll plaza and asked the vehicles not to pay toll, on January 1.
As the employees of toll plaza in Talapady did not force the vehicles to pay toll, no untoward incidents took place during the protest. Surprisingly, the vehicles swiftly move from the toll gate at Talapady without having pay the toll amount.
After the protest, MLA D Vedavyas Kamath informed that the contract company had failed to meet its own promise of completing the construction of flyover within the deadline. “Due to the incomplete flyover, commuters had to face lot of inconveniences. Hence, we held a peaceful protest and made the vehicles move without paying toll,” he said.
Dakshina Kannada Bus Operators Association president Dilraj Alva told newskarnataka.com that it was a symbolic protest. “No buses paid toll today as a mark of protest against the slow phase of work by Navayuga company. Though we have intended not to pay toll until the completion of flyover construction, we came to know that the financial condition of Navayugra company is very poor. Hence, we restricted our stir to single day and we would pay toll from Thursday, January 2. If we notice a delay in construction again, we will stop paying toll,” he informed.
