Illegal storage of sand worth Rs 5 Lakh seized

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Rural police, the Anti Rowdy Squad of Mangaluru South division and the officials of Mines and Geology, in a joint operation, seized over 78 loads of sand, which were stored illegally at Valachil, Adyar and Arkula, on Thursday, September 13. The worth of the seized sand is estimated at around Rs 5 Lakh.

According to the police sources, they were tipped off about the illegal storage of sand at some places in Mangaluru Rural police station limits. Following the information, a team of police headed by Mangaluru South sub-division ACP K Ram Rao rushed to the spot and seized illegal sand weighing around 780 tonnes( 78 loads). The case has been handed over to Mines and Geology department for further investigation, sources said.

This raid was made under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth as directed by Mangaluru Police Commissioner T R Suresh
