Mangaluru: The Bajpe police in association with the officials of Revenue, Mines and Geology department seized three boats which were engaged in illegal extraction of sand from Phalguni river in Addur village on Sunday. The worth of the seized property is estimated at around Rs 5 Lakh.
Sources from Bajpe police informed that they tipped off about illegal sand mining at Phalguni river at Addur village. Based on the information, a team of police headed by Inspector S Parashivamurthy, Sub-inspector Shankar Nayari rushed to Addur village. Padmashri of Mines and Geology Department, Revenue Inspector Asif and Village Accountant Prameela conducted the operation. They found three sand-filled boats worth of Rs 5 Lakh. However, those engaged in sand extraction fled the spot.
The case has been handed over to Mines and Geology Department for further investigation, sources said.
