Mangaluru: The District Headquarters (DHQ) – 3 of the Indian Coast Guard kicked off a special drive against plastic waste called ‘Plastic Waste Shramadaan’ on Monday, December 2. The unique initiative was undertaken in order to keep the Coast Guard premises in Karnataka free from single-use plastics.
The environmental campaign is expected to go on until December 15. At the inaugural event, the Coast Guard Team of DHQ-3 urged locals, as well as other stakeholders, to adopt and encourage eco-friendly practices such as using jute or cloth bags instead of plastic bags.
They also supported the call for a nationwide ‘Swacchta Jagruti Abhiyan’ campaign in order to make India completely free from single-use practice.
