Mangaluru: With the emergence of a new mafia trying to extort money from doctors and hospitals, the public should not believe propaganda being promulgated against any hospitals, said representatives of the Nursing Homes and Hospital Management Association.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, October 15, Indiana Hospital Managing Director and association member Dr. Yusuf Kumble informed that a few miscreants were attempting to make easy money doctors, hospitals, and patients as well. He said, “Since we have noticed such a mafia in recent days, Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute has filed a case with the cyber police.”

Kumble further said that he had received an anonymous call from a computerized voice speaking in Malayalam. “The caller claimed to be one of the relatives of a patient in the hospital. After a couple of days, I received a call asking for Rs 1 lakh. When I refused to pay, he threatened to defame me and my hospital on social media. Later, I noticed a defaming message being circulated on social media about me and my hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kumble urged the public not to trust fake messages about Indiana Hospital or any other hospital that is being circulated on social media and said that such messages were far from the truth. He also cautioned that some miscreants were collecting money under the pretext of helping poor patients. “If anyone wants to extend a helping hand towards ailing patients, either you should deposit the money to the patients’ bank account or you should visit the hospital and pay the amount,” he said.

Indiana Hospital senior manager Umesh Gowda and Indiana Hospital media consultant Aftab Kola were also present.
